3/30/13 17U Boys: The 17U boys had an early morning slate of games, beginning with an 8:30AM matchup with Hardy Hoops. After a slow couple minutes to start, the game quickly changed tide and the 17U boys won soundly, 74-31. In the 10:00AM game versus MD Hoopmasters, the 17U boys kept their momentum going, playing its scramble, high-octane defense, and won by a score of 69-22. The boys finished 3-0 on the day by defeating IBA in the final game, 59-44. Good day by the 17U boys!
4/14/13 17U Boys: Looking to shake off the rust prior to the next two weekends of the NCAA evaluation periods, Coach Savercool's 17U boys began Saturday evening at DeSales with a 17-point win over KOP Patriots. In the Saturday evening showcase game versus defending AAU DII National Champion, Syracuse Select, a mid-2nd half run by SCS extended the lead for good and resulted in a 13-point victory for the squad. Coming off Saturday evening's emotional high, the boys could not re-gain a sliver of focus in their Sunday morning game, falling by 3 to the Cougars. Shaking the loss, the 17U boys made quick work of SJ Jazz in their final game of the weekend, defeating them by about 25 points.
4/20-21: 17U Boys: The 17U boys traveled to Pittsburgh for the nationally-recognized Hoop Group Jamfest. Stocked full of talented teams and college coaches hungry to find the next prospect, Coach Savercool's group began the tournament versus powerhouse Team Takeover. A back and forth affair from the get-go, the game was tied at halftime. A 5-minute window to start the 2nd half put the boys' in an early hole. Fighting from behind, they clawed back and nearly made it a single possession game in the later parts of the game, but ended up losing by 7. Loss aside, the team proved they can compete with any team they square up against and did so in front of an endline packed with college coaches. In game 2, the boys showed resiliency in a game of two teams exchanging leads and runs, and they ended up coming out of it on the right side of equation, defeating Baltimore Supreme 51-49. Game 3 of the weekend was versus Team Price...a flat showing and poor finish to the 2nd half resulted in a 15-point loss for the group. A long weekend for the 17U boys, but one where they came away achieving the goal of every weekend during live periods: exposure.
4/27-28: 17U Boys: The 17U boys were in Philadelphia this weekend for the NCAA-certified Hoop Group Jamfest. Playing on Friday night with only 7 players due to injuries and a local prom, a huge 2nd half by the boys in their first game versus Mass Rivals resulted in an 86-50 win. Next up on Friday night was DC Assault's Gold squad and their roster full of high major Division 1 players, evident by the hoards of college coaches, Division 1 through 3, in attendance as the game began. Undersized but not overmatched, the 17U boys played their hearts out and scrapped every step of the way, falling 77-67 in a gutsy effort that did not go unnoticed by every person in attendance. In Saturday's first game, the boys rebounded to defeat NJ Shoreshots, 69-44. Saturday's 2nd game was a rematch versus Baltimore Supreme, whom the boys defeated by 1 point in Pittsburgh last week. A big first half and quick start to the second half by the Baltimore Supreme had SCS down double-digits quickly. In a frenetic finish to the game and a huge run by SCS, a layup at the buzzer rimmed in and out that would've won the game for the 17U boys. The final score was 65-64. A 2-2 weekend for the squad, but a weekend that elevated the recruitment and stock of many of the SCS players.
5/18-19: 17U Boys: The 17U boys were in the Pennsylvania Jamfest at Philadelphia University. The boys opened Saturday with a 20-point victory of Jersey General. In Saturday's 2nd game, numerous lead changes and heavy transition-basketball led to an entertaining game, but SCS fell short, losing 73-71 to New Jersey Elite. In the final pool play game versus LP Fam, the 17U squad found themselves down 15 nearly halfway through the 2nd half. An explosive finish and a 33-5 run by the boys to finish the game shocked LP Fam, leading SCS to a 13-point victory and a 1st place finish in the pool. In the tournament semi-final versus host Keystone Blazers, another fast-paced affair had heads spinning but a layup with seconds remaining by Matt Tamanosky sealed the game for SCS, winning 74-72. In the Pennsylvania Jamfest championship versus Jersey Shore Warriors, a 24-0 early 1st half run by the Warriors proved difficult to overcome. The 17U boys fought to the end, but ended up dropping the game, 67-58, to the sharpshooting Jersey Shore Warriors.
6/1-2: 17U Boys: Playing extremely shorthanded due to injury, sickness, and other commitments, the 17U boys put on a show for Baltimore the entire weekend. Game 1 versus Baltimore's Finest was a warm-up to the rest of the weekend, winning 53-32. Their 2nd pool play game is when the offense churned itself in full gear. Playing SJ Cannons, transition basketball was the 17U boys ultimate edge, exploiting it over and over again in a variety of ways, winning 92-38. Sunday brought about much of the same chemistry and transition, where they won their pool, going 3-0, by defeating HC Elite, 77-35. In the tournament championship game, in a rematch versus HC Elite due to point differential tiebreakers, the 17U boys followed it up with another strong win, 65-35, to claim the Atlantic Coast Showdown title!
7/18: The 17U boys began Friday night versus Annandale Bulldawgs. With the SCS's court being the one most heavily attended by college coaches, the 17U boys shook their early rust and erased a 21-4 1st half deficit to win by a score of 72-47. Next up was the talented Westchester Hawks. Another slow start put them in an early hole, but a 13-0 flurry in the final 3 minutes of the game had SCS down 2 with the ball and 15 seconds left to play. A jumper as time expired rimmed out, leading to the 57-55 loss. In Saturday's action, the 17U boys gathered their legs at the right time in a steamy gymnasium, defeating FCA Tarheels, 72-65, in overtime. They finished their Saturday with another win, 67-58, over People's Basketball to finish the Hoop Group Summer Jamfest 3-1.

May 4/5: The Central Penn Ballers 17U team took a trip down the turnpike to suburban Philadelphia this past weekend with their sites on being crowned King of the Middle Atlantic District (PA, NJ, DE). In their 1st game the Ballers used a 27-1 third quarter run to dismantle CAL Sports Academy.
In game 2 the Ballers start off slow and fell behind 22-16 after 1 quarter to a disciplined and well coached Team Renegades squad. That would be the only quarter they’d lose as the Ballers picked up the intensity on D and eventually stretched the lead out to 18, the Renegades however hit 2 uncontested 3’s in the waning moments as the Ballers end up winning by 12.
In game 3 the Ballers would face their nemesis National power Team Nelson who has knocked them out in the Elite 8 of this event 2 out of the past 3 years. Licking their wounds from the past the Ballers jump out the gate fast and take and early 11 point lead. The Ballers would keep a double digit lead throughout most of the game and stretched it out to 16 points at one point. However with a little under 3 minutes to play and the Ballers up 12 and playing too relaxed, Team Nelson makes a surge hitting 4 incredible 3 point shots down the stretch to make things interesting, however the Ballers close the game by hitting the necessary free throws and advance to the Final 4 next weekend.
